The Peaceful Purpose of the Best B&B Singing Bowl

We meet a lot of people at Best B&B on Vancouver Island and in our other businesses. We also say goodbye to a lot of people and never see them again. To combat goodbye burnout I use a singing bowl after every departure as a ritual to signal the end and make a positive peaceful  space for new people coming in.

     Using a singing bowl triggers compassionate reflection. There are times when a relationship with a client isn’t very positive. If I felt like the client and myself tried everything to fix things but were still at cross purposes, then this is a great time to just practice forgiveness. The clients don’t know what’s in your life, you don’t know what’s in theirs so you need to forgive yourself and the other person, wish them well and just send out good vibrations to them. It’s like a prayer. It’s definitely not scientific at all but I like to think that maybe the power of good will can actually reach people and make their lives better.

    Occasionally you meet people where the connection feels more like family. We had an engineer and a semi-professional cricket player from India stay with us for a few months at our last B&B. He was a very lively, sunny, fun person and a story teller so we clicked hard! At the end of the day he was still a client and he had to go home to his busy life. We actually grieved his absence.  To make it worse, the guests after him were very challenging, mean, demanding and un-fun  ! ! Using the singing bowl helped us go through the stages as quickly as possible and move on and helped us to stop comparing everyone to Sen even though we still miss him.

     Other times clients enter your B&B home needing help. Quite a few years ago we had a couple stay with us who were in the process of selling their horse. Their daughter was a competitive show jumper and she needed a better horse to continue her path. Her mother was having a hard time letting go of the horse. I became a neutral person to talk to about her pet and for her to show me his picture and trophies. I learned owning a horse is not for the weak! Lol! It was sad. When they left I used the singing bowl to send love and hope her way. I hope she is doing ok and that she found a new horse to love.  

     Recently I have decided to leave my singing bowl upstairs at the Best B&B on a cabinet for the guests to use. Sometimes I hear it going off at random times during the course of their stays. I hope they are finding it a peaceful and helpful reflecting tool as they travel and transition from our B&B home back into their real lives.
